Answers:
  1. Are distance learning degrees through CPS Online any different from those earned on-campus at The George Washington University
The online and the on-campus degrees are exactly the same. You will receive the same degree as an on-campus student.

  2. What can I achieve with this degree?
In March 2009, a survey of the Master of Professional Studies in Paralegal Studies online program students was conducted to gauge their perceptions on how this program is impacting their careers.

  3. How are the programs accredited?
The George Washington University is accredited by its regional accrediting agency, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The University is on the approved list of the American Association of University Women and is a member of the College Board. The Law School is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools and is approved by the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association. These programs also meet the tuition reimbursement standards of most agencies.

  4. Is this program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA)?
The GW Master's Degree in Paralegal Studies program is not ABA approved and never will be.

GW is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, adheres to the highest standards of higher education, and works ceaselessly to create and maintain the very best, most rigorous program possible. Our graduates enjoy success and make us proud.

The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools is one of the eight regional accrediting associations authorized to evaluate and accredit universities and hold them to high standards of excellence and achievement. The U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation recognize only the regional agencies for higher education accreditation.

To obtain and maintain that accreditation, a university must submit to rigorous review, participate in constant and meaningful assessment, adhere to nationally and regionally established policies and procedures, maintain accountability, and demonstrate student success. This is higher standard of review and a much higher achievement than ABA approval.

The ABA approves paralegal schools and programs. The ABA does NOT accredit programs. The ABA has no authority to accredit programs. The ABA approval process is a fee-based service whereby a school invites the ABA to review their program, pay a fee, submit paperwork to demonstrate that it meets the ABA's guidelines, and pays to bring ABA representatives to the school. If the ABA decides that the school meets its guidelines it approves the school. The school then must pay periodically to have the ABA come in and do interim reviews. If the school continues to adhere to the ABA's standards, the ABA continues its approval.

  5. Does ABA approval matter?
    In a word: no.

The ABA does not accredit programs - only a regional accrediting institution like Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools can do that, as it has for GW. The ABA simply approves programs, which pay fees to the ABA for the service.

  6. How long are the programs?
Each program is completed in approximately 24 months. There are six semesters with each semester lasting approximately 15 weeks.

  7. How much does the program cost?
Please contact an Enrollment Advisor for the most current information. This is a great investment when you consider the programs allow you to realize career-advancing opportunities while you continue working. You can have the benefits of a degree with the accessibility of taking courses from your home or office.

  8. When could I start a program?
You may enter a program six times per year at two points during each semester — fall, spring or summer.

  9. How much time is required in this program?
Each program is designed for the working professional who must keep up with the demands of work and home. Most students require 15-20 hours of study per week. It allows you to study on your own schedule. Your small group facilitator acts as your personal mentor and coach and will help keep you on track. Students also find their classmates are a tremendous source of support.

  10. Who do I talk to if I have more questions, or I want to apply?
You may contact an Enrollment Advisor to answer all your questions or download an information brochure.
